30% WAGE INCREASE FOR PUBLIC SECTOR WORKERS REQUESTED

The Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions, JCTU, has requested a 30-percent increase in wages for public sector workers over a 2-year period. JCTU Vice President, Helene Davis Whyte, says the wage claim has come ahead of the formal commencement of negotiations with the Government tomorrow. Mrs. Davis Whyte says the JCTU is mindful of commitments in Jamaica’s agreement with the International Monetary Fund, IMF. Public sector workers have had wage freezes over the last six years.
