Cigarette Company, Carreras is expressing concern that many Jamaicans still do not know what the ban on smoking in public places means, even as it comes into effect today.
Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs at Carreras, Christopher Brown, says while the company supports the smoking regulation, he believes the rollout has been untidy.
He says he is particularly concerned there are still no details of the regulations and enough public education has not taken place.
Brown also says Carreras is still not in receipt of the graphic images which the company will be required to place on cigarette packaging.
He says this has implications for the company’s ability to meet specified timeline as it will require equipment upgrades.
