Bunny Rugs of Third World band is dead

William "Bunny Rugs" Clarke is dead. Born February 6, 1948, and known as Bunny Scott, the lead singer of Jamaican reggae band, Third World, previously had to drop out of their 40th Anniversary tour of Europe due to illness; he had been diagnosed with cancer. Bunny Rugs had been hospitalized in a Florida hospital earlier this year. His musical career started in the mid-1960’s when he joined Charlie Hackett and the Souvenirs, before leading Inner Circle in 1969. In 1971 he was a member of the dance band, Hugh Hendricks and the Buccaneers, and later the Bluegrass Experience with Glen Adams. In 1974 he recorded with Lee "Scratch" Perry at the Black Ark. He was a member of The Wild Bunch before returning to New York and taking over as lead singer of Third World. Some of his songs include Here Comes Rudy and Rude Boy, both with Gregory Isaacs, Greensleeves’, Now That We’ve Found Love, Apartheid No and Freedom Fighter. In 2012 he released the single "Land We Love", with profits going to the charities the Jamaican Children&;s Heart Fund (the charity for which he is a spokesman) and Chain of Hope.
