Businessman Patrick Powell has been sentenced to nine months in prison at hard labour for failing to hand over his licensed firearm and ammunition to police investigators. The offence is a breach of the Firearms Act. The sentence was handed down by Parish Judge Vaughn Smith in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court a short while ago. Last month, the judge had said the sentence could be mitigated if Powell surrenders his firearm. The businessman was charged with murder in Kjheel Mais' death, but later acquitted after the case collapsed.
