Cops hail St Thomas residents for rescuing swept away kids — and get slammed for late arrival

A group of residents who risked life and limb Tuesday to save two of three students, who were being washed away in St Thomas, are being commended for their efforts. Police said if it hadn’t been for the help of the residents, the life-saving mission would have ended in greater tragedy. The superintendent for the division expressed regret that the combined efforts were not sufficient to rescue 14-year-old Britany Cohen, whose body was found in Chedwick District. However, as the police rendered accolades, some residents took to lashings them, charging that they failed to respond to the distress call in a prompt manner.
