The Ministry of Education has responded to rumblings among public sector teachers regarding a plan to recover nearly one billion dollars in overpaid salaries. The money was paid over the past seven years and some teachers are worried that they will be hard-pressed in repaying given the wage freeze. The Education Ministry has declared that the money will be recovered. However, Permanent Secretary, Elaine Foster-Allen, says a suitable repayment plan will be worked out based on an assessment of each teacher. The JTA had written to the Ministry asking for a halt to the recovery exercise.
