FLA Chairman Says Missing Firearm File For Patrick Powell Made Revoking Licence Difficult

Chairman of the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) Dennis Wright says the disappearance of the original file for businessman Patrick Powell caused "some challenges" when the agency began the process of revoking his firearm licence. However, Wright testified in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court this morning that the FLA was able to overcome the challenges. He says the board of directors of the FLA met on November 16 last year and decided to revoke the licence issued to Powell for a Glock pistol. The FLA chairman said two days later, he signed the revocation order, the original of which should have been served on Powell. Powell is on trial for failing to turn over his licensed firearm to police investigators which breached the Firearms Act. He was charged amid a probe into the death of Kingston College student Khajeel Mais. Powell was charged with murder in relation to Mais&; death, but was freed after a seven-member jury was directed to return a verdict of not guilty.
