The government has started the process to introduce the ticketing system to fine people who continue to breach the law and possess ganja. Chief Technical Director in the Ministry of National Security, Karen Clarke Davis, says steps are now being undertaken by the ministry to design the special tickets which will allow the police to enforce the law. Last year, Jamaica enacted legislation decriminalising possession of less than two ounces of ganja. As a result, offenders are to be issued with a ticket to pay a fine instead of being arrested and charged. The offender will have 30 days to pay the $500 ticket at any Tax Office.
