Government to insist on future plans for closed bauxite plants

Several crucial decisions are to be made this month regarding the country&;s bauxite/alumina sector with the Government now insisting on a timeline for the reopening of refineries. The Simpson-Miller administration yesterday signalled that it&;s concerned about the continued closure of the Alpart and Kirkvine plants. Mining Minister, Phillip Paulwell, told the House of Representatives that it cannot be business as usual and the administration wants answers on the future operations of the plants. A team from Russian aluminium giant, UC Rusal, which has a major stake in Jamaica&;s mining sector, is due in the island at the end of the month for high level talks:
