There is call for the Government to seriously consider the growing of rice locally. It comes from the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) in the wake of reports that artificial rice is being sold in the country. Consideration was given by the Government in 2008 for Jamaica to begin growing rice on a commercial scale. However, it failed to materialise. JAS President, Norman Grant, says it's time for the authorities to return to the drawing board with the plans. Meanwhile, in the wake of the artificial rice scare Grant is urging Jamaicans to support the "Eat What You Grow" campaign.
