The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Sunday night's murder of two workers at a guest house on Farm Pen Road in Westmoreland. The deceased have been identified as 38-year-old Kevin Rankin and 58-year-old Valarie Bellanfante. According to reports, one of the owners visited the guest house about 10:00 p.m. and noticed that the lights had been turned off. The owner became suspicious and returned an hour later. He opened the property and called the workers. When he heard no reply, he began checking each room. The owner then went to back of the guest house where he saw Mr. Rankin with his mouth stuffed with a cloth and a cord around his neck. Ms Bellanfante was seen laying on the floor, with a sheet covering her body and a wound to the head. The police believe the culprits pretended to be guests and then attempted to rob the workers before killing them.
