Five illegal firearms were seized yesterday evening during a police operation at the Toll Plaza on the PJ. Patterson Highway in St. Catherine. About 7:15 the police intercepted a Toyota Corolla motorcar with several men aboard. During a search of the vehicle they reportedly found three 9 millimetre pistols and two other firearms. Three men were taken into custody. A fourth man escaped. It's reported that shortly after the vehicle was intercepted there was a shootout involving the passengers in the vehicle and the police. However details were not clear.
