An American attorney of Jamaican parentage has been approved as a California Supreme Court judge. A State Commission on Monday unanimously confirmed Governor Jerry Brown’s nomination of Leondra Kruger. She will be sworn in next month. Ms Kruger, who is 38 years old, told the Commission that her Jamaican mother, who attended the hearing, taught her the value of hard work and the belief that anything was possible. After her mother left Jamaica she became a doctor in Pasadena. Ms. Kruger will be the first black person on the court, since Justice Janice Rogers Brown left in 2005.
