Jamaican Heritage Impacting the World

Heritage Week is being celebrated under the theme “Jamaican Heritage Impacting the World” and in deed it is. Just weeks ago, top American fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger unveiled his 2016 fashion line that was heavily inspired by the Jamaican culture. His spring-summer 2016 collection features the Rastafarian colours black, red, green and gold. Some pieces also reflect our music and reggae legend Bob Marley. Rap star Nicki Minaj in recent weeks has been pressured by Trinidadians who criticized her for always endorsing the Jamaican culture. Beyonce, Nicki Minaji, Rihanna, Eddie Murphy, Chris Brown, and countless others have shown their love for the Jamaican culture by way of replicating our sound, music, dance and style. Several events will be held across the island in celebration of Heritage Week which is from October 12 to 19.
