Jamaicans await word on new energy option

Energy Minister Phillip Paulwell is expected to outline the next steps the Government of Jamaica will take to procure a new energy plant for the country when he speaks in Parliament on Tuesday afternoon, this according to one local news source. Word has been circulating since late Monday evening that Cabinet has decided to rescind the license that was granted to Hong Kong based Energy World International (EWI), after the company missed the deadline to post the performance bond of US$36.8 million, which was one of the conditions attached to the granting of the license to build a 381 megawatt energy plant.
