A crucial meeting has been called today amid a deepening rift over
the voters' list to be used in this month's leadership election in the Jamaica
Labour Party (JLP). The meeting will involve senior officials of the JLP,
representatives of the Andrew Holness and Audley Shaw camps, along
with the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ).
With eight days to go before the highly anticipated election, claims by Team
Audley Shaw that a number of delegates have been removed from the
voters' list have escalated.
Tom Tavares-Finson, member of the JLP's Electoral Commission,
said an attempt will be made to settle the matter. Mr. Tavares-Finson
added, members of the commission, and Party Chairman Robert ‘Bobby’
Montaque, will sit with the General Secretary and representative of the
Holness and Shaw teams in a bid to iron out any problem that may
exist. He has chided JLP members who have taken to the airwaves with
allegations that the voters' list is flawed.
