The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has won the majority in the 16th Local Government Election since Universal Adult Suffrage in 1944. According to preliminary results from the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ), the JLP has taken control of nine municipal corporations, while the People's National Party (PNP) has won three. The PNP's Leon Thomas was re-elected Mayor of Portmore. A total of 24,121 electors cast their ballots in the mayoral race. A voter turnout of 30.86 per cent was recorded at the close of polls.
