A unit at the JPS Maggotty Hydro Station was damaged this morning during a fire at the St. Elizabeth power plant. The incident resulted in approximately 22,000 customers being temporarily without electricity. The power supply was restored to those affected in little over an hour. Initial assessment indicates that the fire occurred at approximately 1:40 a.m. and was quickly contained with the assistance of a team from the Black River Fire Station. JPS advises that the incident is being investigated and assures that there will be no impact on our customers going forward.
