JTA staff sent on leave

The Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) has confirmed that staff in its accounting department has been sent on leave to facilitate investigations in the discovery of irregularities.
The JTA, in a statement Wednesday said that in conducting the annual audit of the finances of the Association for the financial year 2012 - 2013 the irregularities were discovered.
According to the JTA, the matter was immediately referred to the Police Fraud Squad, and an investigation begun.
In the meantime the Association is emphasizing that the accounting irregularities do not relate to activities at the JTA Cooperative credit union.
Unconfirmed reports have placed losses from the irregularities at close to $100 million.
