Legislation soon to allow taxis to carry four passengers

GOVERNMENT will be taking legislation to the House of Representatives soon to amend the Road Traffic Act to increase, by one, the number of passengers a taxi is allowed to carry. This comes after the launch of the Choose Right, Choose Life Communication Campaign on Wednesday. Transport Minister Dr Omar Davies, will be moving an amendment to a bill which will recognise that the maximum number in a taxi is five -- the driver plus four. The move is expected to bring an end to a stand-off between the Transport Authority and taxi operators who claimed that they were being unfairly targeted.
