The spotlight will be on the Home Circuit Court Wednesday amid signs that the murder trial of Adidja Palmer, the dancehall entertainer known as Vybz Kartel, could collapse. Prosecutors are to decide Wednesday morning whether they will continue with the trial.
The prosecution suffered a major blow Tuesday when trial judge, Justice Brian Sykes refused to admit the statements of the key witnesses, who have gone into hiding. Prosecutors had applied to the judge to accept the statements under section 31 of the Evidence Act, as both witnesses reportedly cannot be located.
It is now likely that the prosecutors will throw in the towel when the jurors are called back. However, if a not guilty verdict is returned, Kartel will remain behind bars until his trial on a second murder charge is heard in November.
Palmer, Lenburgh McDonald and Nigel Thompson are being tried for the July 2011 shooting death of Barrington 'Bossie' Burton.
