October 30 date for by-elections

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has named Monday, October 30 as the date for three long-awaited parliamentary by-elections. Nomination Day for the polls will be on Monday, October 9. Holness made the announcement on Sunday evening at a mass meeting of the governing Jamaica Labour Party in Annotto Bay, at the centre of the South East St Mary constituency that is being contested against the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP), which was represented by Dr Winston Green, who died suddenly on August 14. The two other by-elections became due upon the retirement of South St Andrew Member of Parliament, Dr Omar Davies, and South West St Andrew MP, Portia Simpson Miller, in late June.
