Opposition Spokesman on Finance Dr Peter Phillips is expected to give his contribution to the budget debate today. Dr Phillips has already indicated his objection to the tax measures announced by Minister Audley Shaw last week. Dr Phillips described the government’s tax package as unleashing unnecessary and brutal hardships on Jamaicans, that the new taxes will only move people to worsened poverty. On Thursday March 16, Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller will make her contribution. Prime Minister Andrew Holness will make his contribution on Tuesday March 21. Then, on Wednesday March 22, Mr Shaw will close the budget debate.
