Outbreak at 2 major hospitals - 18 infants dead

Jamaica&;s Ministry of Health has confirmed that 42 infants have been infected and 18 have died from the outbreak at the University Hospital of the West Indies and the Cornwall Regional Hospital. This was revealed at a media briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister today. The infection is believed to have been developed from organisms that are transmitted through human contact, unsanitary environment and equipment. Health Minister, Dr. Fenton Ferguson, announced that additional consultants are scheduled to arrive in Jamaica in the next 24 hours to help the authorities in their response to the outbreak.
