As the election fever heats up in Jamaica, the governing People's National Party (PNP) went into a three day retreat last night to plan it's strategy for the general election, which is widely expected later this year. All candidates and their campaign managers have been invited to the retreat which is being held at the Riu Hotel in Ocho Rios, St Ann. PNP General Secretary Paul Burke told the media that the Party is using the retreat to plan its strategy for the election. He declined to give details of the strategy, but stated that a statement will be issued at the end of the retreat on Friday. The Party's campaign manager, Dr Peter Phillips, and PNP President Portia Simpson Miller are expected to address the retreat. Sources say the Party will also be using the retreat to try and ease growing tension among party supporters who have objected to the recent selection of some candidates to represent them.
