Seven student athletes were announced as the first recipients of the Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Pocket Rocket Foundation, today. The student-athletes were awarded $100,000 each to assist with tuition, books, lunch and transportation. This year's recipients hail from, St. Jago, Ardenne, Kingston College, Munro College, Papine, Campion College and Mona High. The awardees were Shavar Scott of Ardenne High, Rojaire Bingham of Mona High, Brenton Bartley of Campion College, Tahjia Lumley of Papaine High, Jovaine Atkinson of Kingston College, Carlton Collins of Munro College and Kimone Shaw of St. Jago High. They represent their schools in track and field, badminton, volleyball and squash. The scholarships are open to students from 2nd to 6th form, who represent their schools in sports and who express the need for financial assistance. Fraser-Pryce who won the sprint double at the recent World Athletics Championships in Moscow, Russia was on hand to present the scholarships.
