Police concerned about children and crime stats

The High Command of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is concerned about data which show the nation&;s children are falling victims to crimes. Statistics released by the JCF reveal that during the period January 2013 to May this year, 60 children were murdered and 99 were shot and injured. In the last two months, seven children, aged of 7-17 years, were murdered, while one was shot and injured. Data also show that 44 children were charged with murder, 40 with shooting and 94 with breaches of the Firearms Act. Police intelligence also suggests that criminal gangs continue to co-opt children into their organisations
