An investigation has been launched by the Police High Command into allegations of misconduct by some members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force. The allegations relate to bribes received by police personnel in St. Mary. In a statement last night, the High Command said the allegations are damaging to the image of the JCF and warrant speedy and thorough investigations. Members of the public can make a report by contacting the Inspectorate of Constabulary or the Anti-Corruption Branch. Bus and taxi owners as well as vendors who use the Port Maria Transport Centre have accused the traffic police of preferential treatment towards some transport operators. It was reported on the weekend that the police are allegedly taking money from the operators and allowing them to stay on the road instead of using the Centre.
