The St Ann police seized 300 pounds of ganja during an operation in Alexandria, St Ann on Wednesday morning, September 7. A man and a woman were arrested for the seizure. Reports are that, at about 1 am, members of the Alexandria police were doing a routine spot check in the town square, when they signalled the driver of a white Toyota Corolla station wagon to stop. The driver complied with the officers’ command and the vehicle was searched. Fifteen packages of vegetable matter representing ganja were later discovered. The packages weighed a total of 300 pounds, with an estimated street value of $1.8 million. Formal charges are to be laid against the two later this week.
