The contractor General yesterday made a claim that the Government wants to get rid of the office after hearing plans of a merger of three anti-corruption agencies. Prime Minister Andrew Holness has sought to affirm that claim. In responding to the criticism, the Prime Minister tweeted that there are no plans to get rid of the OCG, and that the new single anti-corruption agency will boost Jamaica’s fight against corruption. And, Justice Minister Delroy Chuck explains that the Contractor General has wrongly labelled the proposal as a merger. He says the new Integrity Commission Bill, now proposes that the OCG remains an agency on its own right, but with the oversight of the integrity commission. Mr Chuck says the bill is being debated in parliament and the Prime Minster is expected to make his contribution on the issue, next week.
