Senior Superintendent of Police for St. James, Steve McGregor, says several illegal activities to include prostitution and murder, have led to an increase in policing at the Peoples Arcade in Montego Bay. It is reported, that close to 500 squatters have taken-up residence, and have also been vending at the arcade for years. Speaking at a recent stakeholders meeting at the arcade, SSP McGregor, said since his arrival in the parish less than a year ago, the police have visited the area regularly. SSP McGregor said the area needs serious attention, as too many illegal activities are taking place.
