Unease in the prisons - warders restive

All is not well in the country&;s penal system as correctional officers have become more restive. Trade unions representing the 2400 officers have declared that, with immediate effect, they cannot guarantee normality at adult and juvenile correctional facilities. This follows a meeting at the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday, which failed to advance the interests of the correctional officers, according to their unions, with the Ministry failing to make an improved offer regarding the alignment of their salaries. Arlington Turner, Chairman of the Jamaica Federation of Corrections, told RJR News on Wednesday night that “normality cannot be guaranteed in any one of these institutions.
