It was first isolated in the Zika Forest of Uganda in 1947. The first recorded outbreak was in Indonesia in 1978. Another outbreak occured on Yap Island in the southwestern Pacific Ocean in 2007. Earlier this year, there was an outbreak of the mosquito-borne Zika Virus (Zik-V) in Brazil.
